If you have an interest in WordPress, you\u2019re a part of the community \ud83d\ude04<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re working on creating an inclusive WordCamp Brighton, with the aim of increasing the diversity in our community. We truly want to create an event that anyone with an interest in WordPress can attend and get a lot out of.<\/p>\n<p>We believe everyone should feel welcome to join in the WordPress fun and have access to the many opportunities this community provides.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/central.wordcamp.org\/\">WordCamps<\/a> are one such opportunity. Organised entirely by volunteers, they&#8217;re a chance for the community to get together, learn, exchange knowledge and celebrate WordPress.<\/p>\n<h2>Tickets for under-represented groups<\/h2>\n<p>With this in mind, we\u2019re giving away 10 WordCamp Brighton tickets to people from groups under-represented at WordCamps.<\/p>\n<p>Under-represented groups include, <strong>but are not limited to<\/strong>, women, individuals with a disability, Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) people and LGBTQIA+ people.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Why free tickets?<\/h2>\n<p>By giving away a limited number of free tickets, we hope to provide a bit of extra encouragement to take part in WordCamp Brighton.<\/p>\n<p>We want to assure everyone: you absolutely <em>are<\/em> welcome.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re doing as many things as we can to be inclusive at WordCamp Brighton. Diversity Tickets are just one of the things we\u2019re doing.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the other things we\u2019re doing to create an inclusive WordCamp are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All venues (including The Old Market stage) are wheelchair accessible<\/li>\n<li>Thanks to our sponsors, our full priced tickets are <em>much<\/em> lower than the actual cost per attendee. We charge \u00a330 for a full price WordCamp Brighton 2017 ticket, but the real cost per attendee is over \u00a3100<\/li>\n<li>Providing a room for parents and their children to relax and have time away from the conference and after party<\/li>\n<li>Providing quiet rooms for attendees<\/li>\n<li>All identifying information was removed before selecting talks<\/li>\n<li>Offering mentor support to all speakers<\/li>\n<li>Organising as much of this event as possible in the open. You&#8217;re welcome to join in (or observe) on <a href=\"http:\/\/wpslack.uk\/\">Slack<\/a>, in the channel #wordcamp-brighton<\/li>\n<li>Continuously trying to reach more people from more diverse backgrounds and cultures<\/li>\n<li>Promoting our <a href=\"http:\/\/2017.brighton.wordcamp.org\/code-of-conduct\/\">Code of Conduct<\/a> in the lead up and during the event<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you have any suggestions about how we can make WordCamp Brighton more inclusive, please <a href=\"http:\/\/2017.brighton.wordcamp.org\/contact\/\">get in touch<\/a> with us and let us know.<\/p>\n<h2>How do I get a Diversity Ticket?<\/h2>\n<p>Diversity Tickets are available now by entering the coupon code <strong>WordPress2017<\/strong> on the <a href=\"http:\/\/2017.brighton.wordcamp.org\/tickets\/\">ticket page<\/a> on this website.<\/p>\n<p>Diversity Tickets are limited to one per person.<\/p>\n<p>If you have any issues claiming a ticket, please <a href=\"http:\/\/2017.brighton.wordcamp.org\/contact\/\">get in touch<\/a> and we can help.<\/p>\n<p>To qualify for a Diversity Ticket you don\u2019t need to explain to us (or anybody) why you think you\u2019re from an under-represented group. You also don\u2019t need to meet any specific criteria.<\/p>\n<p>The important part is: you&#8217;re welcome at WordCamp Brighton and we&#8217;d love you to join us.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re starting by giving away 10 tickets and are aware that\u2019s not very many. We will explore adding more next year though.<\/p>\n<h2>What\u2019s included with a Diversity Ticket?<\/h2>\n<p>Diversity Tickets come with exactly the same perks as the WordCamp Brighton 2017 Tickets, including full access to the Workshop Day, Conference Day and After Party.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019d also like to come to the <a href=\"http:\/\/2017.brighton.wordcamp.org\/join-us-for-a-wordpress-contribution-day\/\">Contribution Day<\/a>, don\u2019t forget to claim a ticket for that too. Contribution Day tickets are free for everyone.<\/p>\n<p>Lunches are provided throughout WordCamp Brighton, as well as snacks, coffee, tea etc. We\u2019re also providing dinner at the After Party.<\/p>\n<p>Please note, we won\u2019t be providing travel or accommodation.<\/p>\n<p>You can read more about what to expect at WordCamp Brighton <a href=\"http:\/\/2017.brighton.wordcamp.org\/about-wordcamp-brighton-2017\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Will anyone know that I\u2019ve claimed a Diversity Ticket?<\/h2>\n<p>No, not unless you want them to. Once you\u2019ve claimed your Diversity Ticket, your profile will appear on the <a href=\"http:\/\/2017.brighton.wordcamp.org\/attendees\/\">attendee list<\/a>, the same as all attendees. It will not be made public that you\u2019ve claimed a Diversity Ticket.<\/p>\n<p>Only <a href=\"http:\/\/2017.brighton.wordcamp.org\/about-wordcamp-brighton-2017\/organisers\/\">this year\u2019s organisers<\/a>\u00a0will know who has a Diversity Ticket (this is because we have access to the WordCamp Brighton 2017 website admin).<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019re more than welcome to tell people you\u2019ve claimed a Diversity Ticket though \u2013 it\u2019s totally up to you.<\/p>\n<h2>What if I claim a ticket but can\u2019t attend?<\/h2>\n<p>If you can\u2019t attend WordCamp, we ask that you <a href=\"http:\/\/2017.brighton.wordcamp.org\/contact\/\">get in touch<\/a> with us as soon as possible to let us know. That way we can release your Diversity Ticket for someone else to use.<\/p>\n<h2>Please help us spread the word<\/h2>\n<p>We\u2019re aware we need to reach beyond our usual networks to increase the diversity of WordCamp Brighton.<\/p>\n<p>With that in mind, we would love if you could help us spread the word.
