WordCamp Brighton 2017 has opened its call for speakers and we’re looking for WordPress professionals and users to join us and share their stories.<\/p>\n

We’re happy to discuss your talk outlines and presentation concepts with you.<\/p>\n

An application from Sarah Semark<\/h2>\n

Bio:<\/strong> Sarah Semark is a designer, developer, and world-traveller. She currently works for Automattic designing and building themes. She has visited over fifty countries, and she’s made things with WordPress in most of them. When she\u2019s not busy conquering foreign lands, Sarah likes obsessing over typography, collecting impractical footwear, and drinking glasses of wine the size of her head.<\/p>\n

Talk Title:<\/strong> The Unbearable Likeness of Design<\/p>\n

\"Sarah<\/strong><\/p>\n

Talk Outline:<\/strong> Why do so many websites look the same? As our tools have improved and we\u2019ve been able to do more with the web, there\u2019s been a growing trend toward websites that look exactly alike. Why did this come to be, and what can we, as designers and curators of the modern web, do to avoid it? In order to answer these questions, we\u2019ll touch briefly on the history of web design, and examine how modern tools and practises have contributed to a more homogeneous-looking internet. We\u2019ll examine the web design process from two perspectives\u2014the designer\u2019s and the developer\u2019s\u2014and discuss how the blurring of those roles impacts the design process. Along the way, we\u2019ll discuss the various merits of following or bucking trends. Finally, we\u2019ll offer some constructive advice to help you\u2014whether you\u2019re a designer or not\u2014add an individual touch to your design work.<\/p>\n

She is evangelical about WordPress and the community and is happy to talk at length on the subject – you have been warned!<\/p>\n

Talk Title:<\/strong> CSS Secrets<\/p>\n

Talk Outline:<\/strong> We all have a “toolbox” of tried and tested techniques that we use again and again when developing, but is there another way? Possibly a simpler way? This is not a talk about doing CSS the “right way”, but looking at some lesser known CSS that you may not know about and that might (hopefully) prove useful.<\/p>\n
